Another 'Dungeon Designer' Map for October (patreon funded)

As I'm fond of mentioning, over on my Patreon page I have one very generous patron that has pledged at the 'dungeon designer' level - but rather than sending me a sketch or idea to work from, they have simply asked that I 'freestyle' another map (each month) however I see fit.

So, for a bit of a change, for this next map I thought I would do something in the same style as my most recent 'little book of dungeons' booklet...

...so here's hoping you guys like it!

I also thought that I'd take this opportunity to show how I sometimes utilise small maps like this in conjunction with 10mm miniatures (or coloured beads) when I'm GM'ing away from home - i.e. when I don't want to be carrying too much around (as there's only so much stuff you can cram into one small backpack), but still want to use something for tactical movement or similar.

For the 'battlemats' I'm using a bunch of THESE magnetic whiteboards (and can easily fit several into my bag, along with my books etc.). They are roughly A4 in size ...and if you trim a sheet of paper (onto which you've printed out a map or similar) so that it is just a little larger than the black frame, you can slide the paper under the frame to keep it in place.

For miniatures/tokens I use either coloured plastic beads (with a tiny magnet glued to the bottom of each) or use 10mm miniatures (from places like Pendraken, Kallistra, or Magister Militum) that I've mounted on small washers, glued magnets underneath, and filled in with a bit of greenstuff...

...all of which I keep/transport in a small case from KR Multicase (which is also about the same size as a sheet of paper, and about 2" deep).

However, with the maps/mini's being so small, these 'battle-boards' do sometimes need to be passed around (or slid across) the table on occasion - but since everything is magnetised, it's not usually a problem :)

(note that both a labelled and unlabelled version of the above 'sewer' map can be dowloaded from the Patreon page ...and that you can do so even if you're not a patron)

One Mini Every Week #17

A slight departure from the norm for this week's project, as I've been making/painting some 10mm stuff for my 'travel GM's kit' :)

Most of the terrain was made from matchsticks, BBQ skewers, and grit/gravel/sand - though I've also used a couple of tiny beads to make the vase, and the bedding was just a bit of kitchen towel soaked in PVA glue.

(miniatures are from pendraken and kallistra)

And I hope to use these pieces to add a bit of colour/flavour to a few of my geomorphs (that I've printed out at a suitable scale) which I'm planning on using for a few random(ish) encounter locations in a upcoming game.

Zone 10: Processing Plant (10mm terrain)

Yesterday saw the release of the first expansion set for the Zone 10 line...

...and as you can see, in the end I've decided that the best option is to release additional buildings as separate products - so that each one can be released as soon as it is finished (rather than supplying them in sets of 3 or 4 different structures ...which will obviously take more time).

As such, this first expansion (which is available for just $1) features a large, vaguely pyramidal, structure that can be used on its own (to represent anything from an atmosphere purifier to a reactor housing), or used in conjunction with other building from the Zone 10 range to form part of a much larger complex.

And while I'm on the subject of other buildings in the Zone 10 range ...for the remainder of the month you can also get your hands on the Zone 10 Basic Set for half of its original price (that's just $2.50).

Zone 10 progress report (p2)

Here's a quick look at the progress on the next zone10 building:

So that's the first building pretty much done now (apart from a few minor tweaks and getting the assembly instructions sorted out).

But I was wondering if folks would prefer it if I were to release additional structures like this on their own (for something like $1), or if you'd rather have several new buildings released together in one new set?

My original plan was to release 3 or 4 new buildings as an expansion set (for something like $3) ...but now I'm leaning more towards releasing them individually.

The upside of releasing them on their own is that folks can just pick up the particular structures that they like, and also that fact that they'll be able to get their hands on them sooner (i.e. I could release a building as soon as it is completed - rather than having to wait for several new buildings to be finished, and then released all together as a new expansion set).

Anyone (who is interested in these 10mm terrain pieces) have a preference?

Zone 10 progress report (p1)

I thought I post a quick picture of today's progress on the next zone10 building...

...and as you can see, the top half of the main structure is pretty much finished (also note that the small trapezoidal shapes extending out from the bottom of the building are the same size/shape as the existing tunnels/passages).

Hopefully, I'll get a little more done tomorrow :)

More Zone10 ?

Here's a quick look at a couple of prototype buildings for the next Zone10 set (note that they are still in the early stages of development at the moment - and just represent the basic shapes at this stage):

For those of you that are not familiar with the range, Zone10 provides a number of modular sci-fi/near-future buildings for use with 10mm miniatures that look something like this when assembled...

...so, with any luck, you can imagine what the above prototypes will eventually look like when all of the details have been added .

Zone 10 - Basic Set

The first set of the new 'Zone 10' range of printable buildings is now available through RPGNow, DriveThruRPG, and Wargame Vault.

As I mentioned the other day, the set is designed specifically for use with 10mm miniatures, but can also be used for 6mm wargames by using the option to print multiple pages of the pdf onto a single sheet of paper (in this instance 2 pages per sheet).

The set is priced at $4.99 (a little over £3), and hopefully fills a bit of a gap in the printable terrain market.

Colony 19 - Zone 10 (...that's 10mm)

I've been a fan of 10mm miniatures for a while now (though mostly fantasy up until this point) ...but there doesn't seem to be much love for this scale when it comes to printable terrain (especially on the sci-fi front).

So in an attempt to remedy that, here's a quick look at something I've been working on this past month (though it's something I've been meaning to get around to for a while now) - mainly for my own gratification, though I'm also hoping to have it available for purchase (as a low cost pdf booklet) through the usual storefronts by the end of the month:

As I say, it's scaled for 10mm miniatures (those shown are from Pendraken Miniatures), and since it's a pretty small scale to be working with, I've kept everything relatively simple to put together, and made all the little pieces as modular as possible (so as to allow for a fair amount of customisation). In addition, I've found that if you use the 'page scaling' option of your pdf reader, and print two pages of the pdf onto one sheet of paper (roughly halving the size of the images), the buildings can also be used for a more epic (6mm) scale of gaming (which is also something I'm considering getting back into).

Anyway, I have to admit that I'm rather pleased with the way it's all turned out, and I should have a few more details (and perhaps a couple more photos) regarding this first set in the next day or two.
