2012 Map-a-Monday (week 22)

Here's the 22nd cave geomorph of the year, and the first since joining the RPG blog Alliance (see the link on the bottom right):

So, for anyone who's new to the blog, may I first offer a hearty welcome, and give a little background on the Map-a-Monday Project:

Map-a-Monday (which is itself not a very clever/relevant play on mappa mundi) has been going for nearly a year and a half now (how time flies), and basically involves me drawing a new geomorph-style map every single week of the year, and then posting it on the blog on a Monday.

The first year concentrated solely on dungeon-style geomorphs (which are also available as a compilation booklet over on RPGNow), whereas this year has featured a number of cave/cavern maps that can be used alongside the original dungeons (just hit the 'maps' label beneath this post to see all of the maps that I've posted to date).

So there's still a long way to go before this year's 'caves collection' comes to an end (after which I'm not sure what I'm going to do next) ...but in the meantime I hope that all these maps continue to be of use to folks who are looking to put a quick 'dungeon' or two together :)

The Little Book of Dungeons - Volume III

I'm pleased to say that the third volume of The Little Book of Dungeons is now available through RPGNow and DriveThruRPG

As usual, the booklet contains nine greyscale dungeon maps that are ready to be populated with a host of traps and foes for your players to overcome.

This time the layouts are a little less generic than before (though admittedly, not by much, and intentionally so), and if folks would like to know the kind of ideas going through my mind while I was designing each map, then let me know in the comments, and I'll gladly dedicate a blog post to such.

Oh... and while I'm at it ...if you would like to get your hands on a free copy of  The Little Book of Dungeons - Volume III, then just answer the following question:

In the Age of Shadow setting what does the elvish term 'oborher' mean?

The first person the answer correctly gets a free copy of the pdf!

The next Little Book of Dungeons?

I've actually had a bit of spare time this past couple of weeks (which is something that has been a bit lacking of late) ...and after finishing another level's worth of maps for Purple Duck Games' megadungeon, I thought I would spend a bit of time drawing a few dungeon maps of my own.

So, with any luck there should be another volume of the Little Book of Dungeons out by the end of the month ...but in the meantime here's a sneak peek at a couple of the maps that I've got finished so far:

Hope you like 'em :)

Why so quiet? ...part 3

This week I've decided to take a little break from the 'video game graphics' that I'm working on (which, as I've said before, is the main reason things are so quiet at the moment), as the last level took me an absolute age to complete, and I didn't want to keep pushing forward and risk becoming burned out.

So a little break (as least on that front) is in order - however, I've still got several maps that I need to catch up on for Purple Duck Games (for the purple mountain mega-dungeon) - so I guess any chance of working on the next Age of Shadow article/supplement will have to wait a while longer ...as will any miniatures that I'd like to get painted up (or any other projects that I have in mind).

But while I'm on the subject of miniatures, I thought I'd mention that I picked up a nice little skirmish game called 'A Song of Blades and Heroes' not long ago, and I have to say that it looks like a nice little game. I've even got my first (Age of Shadow themed) warband assembled and ready to be painted (as you can use pretty much any fantasy model in the game, and there is even an online warband/creature builder if you want to customise things yourself). However, as I mentioned above, I have no idea when I'll actually get time to sit down and throw some paint at these guys - but when I do I'll post some photographs (assuming they turn out OK), and the relevant stats to go along with them.

But now, I really must get on with the next level of The Purple Mountain ...I guess it's a good thing that I enjoy drawing maps :)
