One Mini Every Week #9

For this week's project I thought I would have a go at painting up one of the Reaper Bones miniatures that I have lying around...

...and I'm rather disappointed to say that this mini is pretty horrible (especially since I had rather high hopes for the range). There is almost no detail at all in the figures face, and I'm a little bit embarrassed to show it to be honest (though I suppose a better painter might have a bit more luck with this one).
However, I have about a dozen of these 'Bones' figures in my collection ...and since I was so disappointed with my first one, I figured I'd splash some paint on a few more - rather than judging the entire line on one mini...

...and, as you'll hopefully see, these giant spiders look a lot better (despite my rather hurried paint job), and I'm quite tempted to pick up a couple more (as you can never have enough giant spider mini's right?).

So, despite my initial disappointment, my faith in the range isn't lost yet, and I think I'll try painting up a few more 'Bones' mini's in the coming weeks, before I deliver my final judgement.

One Mini Every Week #8

Once again, after painting 2 miniatures last week (and as such, I am currently one mini ahead of myself), I thought I would spend this week making a few more pieces of scatter terrain...

The gravestones themselves I purchased from Hurlbat's ebay store, and are cut from 2mm thick mdf.

You actually get 30 in the pack (complete with individual bases - as shown above), but I've opted to base most of mine in strips of 5 - using 6" long tongue depressors as the base...

...which I then built up with some cheap (£1) ready mixed wall filler (to cover the little 'tab' where it would normally fit into one of the bases)...

...and gave them a quick paint job.

And, as you can see, I think they've turned out rather nice :)

Hex Map 2 Released

I'm pleased to say that the next overland map in the 'hex-map' range is now available...

Like its predecessor, Hex Map 2 contains both a labelled and unlabelled version of the map - so that you can use it conjunction with the default setting of the Age of Shadow role-playing game -OR-  use it to detail an area within your own homebrew campaign world* (adding place names of your own devising).

It's also worth noting that this map depicts the area to the immediate west of Hex Map 1 (as shown below)...

...both of which depict a detail view of that particular region of the Northern Kingdom.

Hex Map 2 is available for $1.99 from DriveThruRPG and RPGNow.

One Mini Every Week #7

Since I've been without an internet connection for the past couple of days (and thus, had fewer distractions than normal), this week I've managed to get two miniatures painted as part of my 'one mini every week' challenge.

These two are plastic ghouls from Mantic Games (though, like the skeletons I painted previously, these come from the Frostgrave 'undead encounters' set I purchased a little while back) ...and one the whole they are very nice miniatures.

However, the only negative thing I have to say about them is that their fingers are very thin/fragile ...and due to my package being slightly squashed in the post, one hand on each of these had damaged fingers.

Luckily, the sprue also comes with replacement hands (clutching weapons) - and so I was able to swap out the damaged ones for the ones you can see here :)

(Oh ...and just in case anyone was wondering, I'll be using these guys to represent 'gaunts' from the 'Encounters in the Northlands' booklet.)

Mine Geomorph #6 (patreon funded)

After losing a few patrons at the end of last year, things look picking up, and my first milestone has been met again :)

And, as you probably know, that means another bonus 'mine' geomorph for everyone...

So, as always, my thanks go out to all the folks supporting me over on patreon - without whom I wouldn't be able to spend quite so much time creating all this free content ...thanks guys!

And here's the patreon link (for anyone who may be interested in helping me create even more of these little maps):

...and a G+ album containing all of the bonus geomorphs to date: Mine Album

One Mini Every Week #6

My aim of painting at least one miniature every week (to lessen my unpainted stockpile) continues into February with this plastic Dryad miniature from GamesWorkshop:

The miniature itself went together pretty easily - though I have to say that some of the pieces are a little thin/fragile, so I'm not sure how well it'll stand up to regular use.

Anyway, I quite like how it turned out ...and it will be perfect for a new monster (a 'wood-wight') that I'm planning on using in one of my upcoming Age of Shadow games.

Dungeon Monthly #38 (February 2016)

It's time for the second  geomorph of the year...

...and as you can see, this time we have a couple of stepping stones across a molten lake of lava (though there's also a more circuitous route to reach the other side).

And, as usual, unlabelled versions of all these maps can be found here...

Furthermore, if you'd like to see me create even more of these type of maps, feel free to check out the Dungeon Monthly Patreon campaign.
