Warbooty Pt.3

For those still following my adventures at local ‘Warboot’ style events, here’s a quick recap of the third one I visited – which was held at Penkridge this time around:

I would say this one was of a similar size to the last one I went to (which was held in Wolverhampton) or maybe a tiny bit smaller – and some of the same sellers were there (selling cool second hand hobby related stuff – sometimes from their own collections). However, I think it would be fair to say that there was probably more 3D printing guys at this one… not that that’s a bad thing – it’s just not the reason I personally go to these events (I’m more interested in rummaging through boxes/packets/trays of old metal and plastic :) ).

Now, there was a small entry fee (I think it was just £1 after 11am or something like that), and one of my main aims was to try and pick up a few more models for the retro/rescue Blood Angels that I’m putting together…

...and, as you can see in the above pic, I did manage to get my hands on two more of the metal space marine scouts that I’ve been collecting… along with some old Harlequin Black Orcs, and a more recent GW Deffkopta.

Now, there was a lot more stuff that I was tempted to buy – but I figured I already have more stuff to paint than I’ll have time to finish even if I get to live to be 300 – so I reigned myself in a bit. That being said, all this only cost £24 in total IIRC… so if I include the entry fee, that brings things up to a nice round £25.

However, the funny thing about this event was – after I posted a pic of my purchases over on various social media – it turns out that the seller of those metal orcs is actually one of my Patreon supporters. But, because you don’t really see my face in my YouTube videos, we didn’t realise that until after the fact. But it does go some way to showing that it really is a small world after all :)

Anyway, getting back to the miniatures themselves – the two space marine scouts got stripped (with Dettol) and re-based…

...then painted up and added to the rest of my growing scout collection:

Now, I have been doing some research on these guys (and purposely keeping my eye out for one of each pose that was produced for this range back in the late 1990’s / early 2000’s), and as you can see, I have 13 out of 15 (that is, there's only 15 if I just count the generic looking infantry models, and not any chapter specific miniatures or ‘bikers’ etc.).

And while I have seen multiples of all of these at most of the events – the last two that I need (a differently posed sergeant model, and a guy with a missile launcher) continued to elude me.

So, while my original plan was to try and build a little army purely from models that I acquired from these ‘warboots’ I figured that (since there wasn’t another one reasonably close by until early next year, and because I was sooo close to getting them all) if I wanted to try and complete the set and get them all painted this year, I would have to resort to finding these last two elsewhere… i.e. ebay.

And, as it turns out the second sergeant model was pretty easy to find (I think I got mine for £5 or thereabouts)…

…but the missile launcher scout was a lot rarer. In the end, I ended up paying £20 for this one – but since it was the last one I needed, and also because I’d got most of the others pretty cheap, I bit the bullet and figured it was worth it to complete the set.

So, I still have those two to paint (though both have been re-based, and one needed stripping) – though I’ll still be on the lookout for other models that I can buy to expand on this little blood angel force – I mean, I also have these ‘leader types’ to splash some paint on…

...and it would be nice to get a few of the old terminator models, or marines from the old space marine strike force boxed set.

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, the next one of these events that’s reasonably close by is going to be in Bloxwich early next year…

...so I’m hoping to get to that one and seeing what else I can pick up :)
